One Piece Episode 32 Story: Witch Of Cocoyashi Village And Arlong’s Grip

Episode 32, “Witch of Cocoyashi Village! Arlong’s Female Leader!”, digs deeper into the Arlong Park arc. We see how tightly Arlong controls Nami’s home, how the villagers really feel about her, and why this island is so dangerous for the Straw Hats.

Luffy, Sanji, Yosaku And Momoo

On the way to Arlong’s territory, Luffy, Sanji, and Yosaku run into a giant sea creature—Momoo, Arlong’s pet sea cow. Yosaku is terrified, because Momoo is known as Arlong’s monster, but Luffy and Sanji don’t care at all. They beat Momoo up casually, with Sanji even treating him like a warm-up dummy.

Instead of escaping, they tie their boat to Momoo and force him to tow them, accidentally heading straight toward Arlong Park even faster. It’s a classic One Piece contrast: Yosaku is terrified of Arlong’s world, while Luffy and Sanji treat it like just another adventure—completely unaware of how dark things really are on land.

Zoro In Arlong Park And Nami’s Act

Back at Arlong Park, Zoro is still captured after Johnny and Usopp left him tied up earlier. The fish-men mock him, showing off their strength and bragging about how much stronger fish-men are than humans.

Zoro watches Nami closely. On the surface, she acts like Arlong’s loyal navigator—cold, practical, and focused only on money. To test where she really stands, Zoro deliberately jumps into the sea, knowing he can’t swim with his injuries. Nami dives in after him and saves him from drowning.

When they resurface, Nami keeps up the act, insisting she only saved him so he wouldn’t “mess up her plans.” But for Zoro (and the audience), it’s a clear sign: she’s not as heartless as she pretends.

Usopp, Nojiko, And The Truth About The Village

Meanwhile, Usopp escapes from being chased by a fish-man and ends up near a small house surrounded by tangerine trees. There he meets Nojiko, a woman with blue hair and tattoos who looks a lot like Nami.

Nojiko intervenes when the angry boy from before, Chabo, tries to attack Usopp. She knocks Chabo out and explains that his father was killed when Gosa Village was destroyed by Arlong’s crew, which is why the kid is desperate for revenge. Nojiko also tells Usopp that:

  • Cocoyashi Village has been under Arlong’s control for eight years.

  • The villagers survive by paying heavy tribute to Arlong.

  • If anyone breaks the rules, the entire village is punished.

When Usopp asks about Nami, Nojiko reveals that Nami is known in the area as a member of Arlong’s crew and is hated by the villagers as a traitor who sold them out. But the way Nojiko talks about her makes it clear there’s more to the story.

Arlong’s “Peace” In Cocoyashi Village

Later in the episode, Arlong goes to Cocoyashi Village with some of his fish-men to investigate a man accused of having weapons. Arlong’s rule has twisted “peace” into fear:

  • Owning weapons is forbidden.

  • Any sign of resistance can get the whole village wiped out.

  • Arlong uses brutality to make sure no one even thinks about rebelling.

The man insists he doesn’t intend to fight, but Arlong doesn’t care. He lifts him effortlessly, showing the massive strength gap between fish-men and humans, and threatens to kill him as an example. The villagers beg the man not to resist, terrified of what Arlong will do if he feels disrespected.

Just as the situation is about to turn deadly, Usopp interferes, using a slingshot and tricks to distract Arlong and give the man a chance to survive. It’s risky and reckless, but it shows Usopp’s heart—when people are in real danger, he can’t just stand and watch.

Nami, The “Witch” Of Cocoyashi Village

Throughout the episode, we hear locals refer to Nami as the “Witch of Cocoyashi Village.” To them:

  • She joined Arlong’s crew.

  • She steals money.

  • She acts like she only cares about herself.

But Nojiko quietly hints that Nami’s actions are tied to a much deeper, painful reason related to the past and to someone important in their family. We don’t have the full story yet, but Episode 32 sets up the emotional mystery:

  • Why did Nami really join Arlong?

  • Why is she obsessed with money?

  • Why does Nojiko defend her, even though the whole village hates her?

By the end of Episode 32:

  • Luffy, Sanji, and Yosaku are rushing toward Arlong Park on Momoo.

  • Zoro is still in enemy territory but knows Nami’s feelings aren’t simple.

  • Usopp and Nojiko are in the middle of Arlong’s domain, facing the reality of eight years of oppression.

  • And Nami’s image as a “traitor” is clearer than ever on the surface—but clearly hiding something much bigger underneath
