Episode 30, “Set Sail! The Seafaring Cook Sets Off With Luffy!”, is the true emotional finale of the Baratie arc. The battle is over, Don Krieg is gone, and now the focus shifts to Sanji’s heart: will he stay at the floating restaurant he helped build, or finally go to sea and chase the All Blue with Luffy?
Peace After War: Baratie Back To Normal (Almost)
With Krieg defeated and his fleet driven off, Baratie returns to its usual loud, chaotic life—only this time with broken railings, damaged fins, and scorch marks as reminders of the battle. Luffy recovers from his injuries and learns that his “debt” for smashing Baratie’s front back in Episode 20 is officially cleared thanks to how he protected the restaurant.
But even in this calm, there are two big unresolved threads:
Sanji’s dream of the All Blue.
Nami’s disappearance with the Going Merry, heading toward a dangerous sea.
Luffy’s Offer, Sanji’s Hesitation
Luffy, staying true to his original plan, again asks Sanji to join his crew as their cook. Sanji doesn’t laugh it off this time. He admits that going to sea and searching for the All Blue is his dream, but he still says no—for now. He tells Luffy he wants to stay at Baratie because he owes Zeff and feels responsible for the restaurant.
Zeff overhears this conversation from a distance. Hearing Sanji say “All Blue” with that much passion makes it clear: Sanji’s heart is already out on the sea.
The Harsh Kitchen Act: Pushing Sanji Out
Later, in the kitchen, Sanji serves soup to the other cooks. Patty, Carne, and the rest take a sip, then immediately start trashing it, calling it awful and acting like Sanji is still just a second-rate chef.
Sanji snaps back, furious, and storms out. To him, these are the people he’s cooked beside for years, so their insults sting. But right after he leaves, the truth comes out:
They admit the soup is amazing.
They know Sanji is more than ready to cook anywhere in the world.
They’re insulting him on purpose—so he’ll feel less guilty about leaving.
Zeff then says exactly what he really wants: he doesn’t want Sanji chained to Baratie forever. He wants him to go with Luffy, explore the seas, and chase the All Blue—the dream Zeff himself had to give up.
Sanji overhears every word. The man who once sacrificed his leg and his food to keep him alive is now sacrificing his own feelings to set him free.

Yosaku’s News: Nami’s Dangerous Destination
Meanwhile, comedy and tension mix when Yosaku shows up riding in the mouth of a giant sea creature and crashes into Baratie. Once he recovers, he explains that he tried to follow Nami after she stole the Going Merry, but lost her exact path.
Even so, he learned where she’s heading: an island controlled by a feared pirate crew in another part of East Blue. Viewers will recognize this as setup for Arlong Park, but for the characters, it just means one thing—Nami is in serious danger, and they need to sail soon if they want to catch her.
This news tightens the timeline:
Luffy needs a full crew (including a cook).
They can’t sit at Baratie any longer.
Sanji’s Goodbye: The Bow And The “Thank You”
The emotional climax comes when Sanji finally makes his decision. He packs his suitcase, walks to the Baratie entrance, and faces Zeff and all the cooks lined up in front of the restaurant.
Instead of cracking a joke or pretending not to care, Sanji drops to his knees, forehead to the ground, in a deep bow in front of Zeff. With tears in his eyes, he thanks Zeff for:
Saving his life on the island.
Giving him food when he was starving.
Teaching him how to cook.
Sharing the dream of the All Blue, even when it felt impossible.
It’s the moment where everything unspoken between them finally gets said. Zeff, fighting back his own tears, answers with very simple words—telling Sanji not to catch cold and to stay alive and never go hungry again. It’s classic One Piece: simple lines with heavy meaning.
The other cooks hide their emotions behind insults and jokes, calling Sanji names and pretending they’re happy to see him leave, but they’re all clearly crying. This is their way of saying they care.
Sanji Joins The Straw Hat Pirates
After his goodbye, Sanji walks down to the Going Merry, where Luffy and the others are waiting. He asks Luffy if he can come along as the crew’s cook. Luffy, without hesitation, accepts—this is what he wanted from the moment he saw Sanji fight and cook at Baratie.
Sanji officially becomes the Straw Hat Pirates’ cook, and the ship sets sail toward their next destination, following Nami’s trail into dangerous waters.
As Baratie fades into the distance, Sanji carries Zeff’s teachings, the All Blue dream, and the weight of that goodbye with him onto the Going Merry. The Baratie arc closes, and the path toward Arlong Park and the next big emotional story begins.
