Episode 37, “Luffy Stands Up! End of a Broken Promise!

Episode 37, “Luffy Stands Up! End of a Broken Promise!”, is where Nami finally breaks, begs Luffy for help, and the Straw Hats begin the legendary walk to Arlong Park.

Villagers Decide To Fight, Nami Can’t Stop Them

After Nezumi steals all of Nami’s buried money and shoots Nojiko, the doctor treats Nojiko while Cocoyashi’s villagers gather in anger. Genzo and the others decide they can’t live under Arlong anymore and choose to march on Arlong Park, even if it means dying.

Nami rushes back and desperately begs them not to go, knowing from experience how impossible it is for normal humans to beat the fish-men. But the villagers are done letting a child carry their burden; they feel guilty that Nami sacrificed eight years of her life for them and now want to fight, even if it’s hopeless. They walk toward Arlong Park with weapons in hand.

Nami’s Breakdown And “Luffy… Help Me”

Left behind, Nami walks alone on the road, replaying everything in her head—Bellemere’s death, Arlong’s fake deal, eight years of stealing, and now her money being taken and Nojiko shot. Realizing Arlong never intended to free the village, she reaches her emotional limit.

In rage and despair, Nami grabs a knife and stabs the Arlong Pirates tattoo on her shoulder over and over, trying to tear off the symbol that has chained her to Arlong. Blood runs down her arm as she collapses to her knees, crying and screaming.

At that moment, Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp are already there, silently watching her pain. Nami tries one last time to push them away, but finally breaks down, grabs Luffy, and says the words she couldn’t say for eight years: “Help me.”

Luffy gently removes his straw hat—his most precious treasure—and places it on Nami’s head, trusting her completely. Then he turns around, tells the crew, “Let’s go,” and starts walking toward Arlong Park.

Mid‑Story Promotion (Insert Right After The Hat Scene)

Right after you narrate Nami saying “Help me” and Luffy putting the hat on her, you can drop this mid‑story promo in your video or blog:

“Scenes like ‘Luffy… help me’ only hit this hard when you watch the full Arlong Park build‑up without cuts. If you want to experience this turning point properly, you can stream One Piece on Crunchyroll, with a massive anime library, subtitles and dubs, and smooth streaming on mobile, PC, and TV. Instead of random low‑quality clips, you can binge the entire East Blue saga in order and feel every step that leads to Nami’s breakdown and the walk to Arlong Park.”

Then continue straight into the walk part.

The Legendary Walk To Arlong Park

After Nami entrusts everything to Luffy, the crew heads out to Arlong Park. At the same time, the armed villagers are also marching there, ready to launch a suicidal attack against the fish-men.

Before the villagers reach the gate, Johnny and Yosaku block the path. They tell the villagers to stop and let the Straw Hats handle it, saying that if Luffy and the others can’t beat Arlong, then ordinary villagers have no chance at all.

We then see one of the most iconic shots in early One Piece: Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp walking side by side toward Arlong Park, calm and determined, with the village’s future on their shoulders. Behind them, Nami stays in the village, crying with Luffy’s hat on her head, finally trusting someone else to fight for her.

Luffy Stands Up Against The Broken Promise

By the end of Episode 37:

  • Nami has accepted that Arlong’s promise was a lie and that she can’t fix things alone.

  • She openly asks Luffy for help, and he agrees without needing any explanation of her past.

  • The villagers are held back to avoid pointless deaths.

  • The Straw Hats walk toward Arlong Park, fully committed to destroying Arlong’s regime and ending the broken promise once and for all.
