The Truth About Zoro

Luffy and Koby soon learn that Zoro is not just a monster, but a man who was tied up and starved after standing up to Morgan’s spoiled son Helmeppo to protect a little girl. Zoro agreed to endure a month of punishment in exchange for freedom, but Helmeppo secretly plans to execute him anyway, proving how badly the Marines abuse their power in this town.

Luffy Takes a Stand

When Luffy hears Helmeppo brag about breaking his promise, he punches him in the face in the middle of town, openly challenging the Marine family’s authority. Luffy decides that a man who can endure torture to protect others is exactly the kind of swordsman he wants, so he promises Zoro he will bring his three swords and help him escape.

Battle at the Marine Base

Luffy and Koby sneak into the Marine base to recover Zoro’s swords, accidentally destroying a huge statue of Captain Morgan and triggering a full confrontation with the Marines. In the chaos, Luffy uses his rubber powers to tank bullets and smash through enemy lines, while Morgan orders his own men and even a little girl to be executed, showing how far his twisted “justice” goes.

Zoro’s Resolve and New Beginning

Freed at last and reunited with his three katanas, Zoro unleashes his iconic three-sword style in his first real fight of the series, cutting down Morgan and his soldiers. Impressed by Luffy’s courage and inspired by his dream, Zoro agrees to become his first crewmate, while Koby chooses to stay behind and join the Marines, sending the two friends on different paths but with their own dreams burning stronger than ever.
